My Focus Group

After conducting a focus group for the methodology presentation and screening of my final production on Monday 14th, I then gave the participants an questionnaire to fill out; therefore I could organise my feedback from the group into categories. I tried to make my focus group vary in ages and sexes, to ensure that my feedback wasn't basis. As well as receiving written feedback, I set my group as a verbal discussion in order to allow my group to speak freely. My group ranged from friends to professional opinions in order to make sure my feedback wasn't basis and I could improve my production or future productions effectively.

Below is the filmed feedback from my focus group, I speak on behalf of my audience as they didn't want to be featured on screen.

Final Advertisement

Above is the final draft of my advertisement, for my artist, 'Jessica Peaty' and track 'always'. The social media on the right hand top, allows and markets herself to her target audience, to view her not just as an artist but a normal person. The basic font of her name; is very standard, this creates a connotation of my artist coming from a basic and normal background. This conforms to Richard Star's theory and the paradox of the artist, has my artist is both extraordinary in the sense she's living this 'American Dream' yet ordinary has she's able to relate to the normal upbringing a teenage girl. The typography of the song and album name, 'Always' has a colour block behind the font, this stands out from her name, portraying and signifying it as significantly important, as it is a pink shade it connotes my genre of love, this foreshadows and brings expectations for my target audience to what the song will consist of. The 'out now on itunes!' is short but gives information to my active target audience to go and buy, listen and watch the song on different platforms. The photo itself is very basic. The artist is denoted in the centre third (using the rule of thirds) this connotes her as the centre of attention as the audience are restricted from looking at anything else. The artist is denoted making direct eye contact with the camera, this ultimately signifies the direct contact she is making with the audience viewing the advertisement- making it personal to that individual in the demographic. The bars going across the face, covers certain parts, this connotes that the artist doesn't want to be the face of her music, she wants her music to be famous. This subverts the hegemonic reading of women in the music industry, has they use their image in order to gain their mass target audience. The different colours are symbolic of the different meanings and emotions which is signified as the various emotions felt through a relationship- directing linking to the message behind my music video as my artist's production exposes both positive and negative views of a conventional hetrosexual relationship. This connotes the reality in life relationships, a view with subverts the dominant reading of love in the media.
